These Terms of Use govern your use of founderslaw.com and any related pages operated by Founders Law LLP ("Founders Law," "we," "us," or "our"). By using this site, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
These terms apply to your use of this website only. If Founders Law represents you, the terms of that representation are set out in your engagement agreement with the firm. Nothing on this page modifies, limits, or replaces that agreement, or the professional obligations we owe you as your counsel.
1. Attorney advertising
This website is attorney advertising. Founders Law LLP is a law firm. The content here is intended to describe the firm, its attorneys, and the kinds of matters we handle.
2. This site does not provide legal advice
Everything on this site, including articles, essays, checklists, practice descriptions, and attorney biographies, is general information. It is not legal advice, and it is not a substitute for advice from a lawyer who knows your situation.
Legal outcomes turn on specific facts and on the law of a specific jurisdiction, both of which change over time. Content on this site may be outdated, may not reflect current law, and may not apply to your circumstances. Do not act or refrain from acting based on anything you read here without first consulting a qualified attorney.
3. No attorney-client relationship
Using this site does not make you a client of Founders Law. Reading our content, submitting a contact form, subscribing to our newsletter, sending us an email, or calling us does not create an attorney-client relationship.
An attorney-client relationship with Founders Law is formed only when we and you have both signed a written engagement agreement covering a specific matter. Until that happens, we are not your lawyers and we are not acting on your behalf.
4. Information you send us before we represent you
Please be careful about what you send us before an engagement agreement is in place.
Information you send through this site, by email, or by phone before we have agreed to represent you may not be protected by the attorney-client privilege, and sending it does not obligate us to keep it confidential in every respect. We may already represent another party with interests adverse to yours, or we may later be asked to, and unsolicited information from you could limit our ability to act.
That said, we take our professional obligations to prospective clients seriously. Where a person consults us in good faith about the possibility of forming an attorney-client relationship, we handle the information they share consistent with the duties we owe under the applicable rules of professional conduct, whether or not we go on to represent them.
The practical guidance: tell us enough to get the conversation started, and wait until we have confirmed we can take the matter before sending anything sensitive, time-critical, or detailed.
5. Prior results
Prior results do not guarantee or predict a similar outcome. Any description of past matters, transactions, or outcomes on this site reflects the specific facts of those matters. Your matter is different, and results vary.
Statistics on this site describing the firm's work, including amounts raised, transactions closed, and clients advised, are aggregate figures as of the date shown and are provided for general context only.
6. Content and how you may use it
Unless noted otherwise, the content on this site, including text, articles, graphics, layout, and design, is owned by Founders Law LLP or used with permission, and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.
You may share and quote from our articles and essays for non-commercial purposes, provided you attribute the piece to Founders Law LLP and, where you are publishing online, link back to the original page. Please do not republish a piece in full, sell or license our content, remove attribution, or use our content in a way that suggests we endorse you, your business, or your position.

This site may link to websites we do not operate. We provide those links for convenience. We do not control, endorse, or take responsibility for the content, accuracy, or practices of any third-party site, and your use of those sites is governed by their terms, not ours.
9. Acceptable use
Please do not use this site to do anything unlawful, and please do not attempt to interfere with its operation. That includes attempting to gain unauthorized access to any part of the site or its underlying systems, scraping or harvesting content or contact information for commercial purposes, transmitting malicious code, submitting false or misleading information through our forms, or using our contact channels to send unsolicited commercial messages.
10. The site is provided as is
This site is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Founders Law disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including any warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, and availability.
We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, error free, or free of harmful components, or that the information on it is complete, current, or correct.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Founders Law LLP and its partners, attorneys, and staff will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages arising out of or relating to your use of this site, or your reliance on any content on it, even if we have been advised of the possibility of those damages.
This limitation does not apply to any obligation Founders Law owes a client under a signed engagement agreement, or to any liability that cannot be limited under applicable law or the applicable rules of professional conduct.
12. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Founders Law LLP and its partners, attorneys, and staff from any claim, loss, or expense, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising out of your misuse of this site or your violation of these terms or of any applicable law.
13. Privacy and cookies
Our handling of information collected through this site is described in our Privacy Policy, available at founderslaw.com/privacy, which is incorporated into these terms. Section 4 of that policy covers cookies: what this site sets, why, and how to change or withdraw your choices at any time through Cookie settings at the bottom of every page.
One thing worth stating plainly: agreeing to these terms is not how you consent to optional cookies, and using the site is not by itself consent to them. That is a separate choice, made through the cookie controls, and you can change it whenever you like without affecting your right to use the site.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we will post the revised version here and update the effective date above. Your continued use of the site after that means you accept the revised terms. If a change is significant, we will make reasonable efforts to note it clearly.
15. Governing law and venue
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, without regard to its conflict of laws principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these terms or your use of this site will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Cook County, Illinois, and you consent to the jurisdiction of those courts.
16. General
If any provision of these terms is held unenforceable, that provision will be limited or removed to the minimum extent necessary and the remaining provisions will stay in effect. Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of it. These terms, together with our Privacy Policy, are the complete agreement between you and Founders Law regarding your use of this site.
